Sinn Fein, Gerry Adams Martin McGuinness, Irish Republicanism

Adams And McGuinness Asked to Resign
This a guest post from an Irish American blogger http://irishblog-irishblog.blogspot.com/ on Irish Republicanism as represented by the current Sinn Fein leadership in Northern Ireland.
A Chairde,
Many republicans, myself included, subscribed to the view of achieving a 32 county republic first and then developing a Socialist Republic later. It seemed at the time that we had not the luxury of time for a proper debate on socialism and it would create further possible divisions. With the benefit of hindsight this would now be recognized by most as a serious mistake, hindering the development of a truly accountable liberation leadership in the learning curve of struggle.
The primary part of British strategy always in Ireland and elsewhere has been, divide and conquer. Wheteher we like it or not, we must admit they have been extremely successful at it. We must try and unite as far as possible, still keeping basic principles of Republicanism and Socialism, because as we have witnessed over and over, united we stand, divided we fall.
One of the basic tenets of republicanism is equality, which is simply not possible under any form of monarchy, a system based on inherited privilege, hence McGuinness as an acting minister of the...

Sectarian Sheep Painting Northern Ireland
Posted on 15 January 2010 | 4:02 am by
BREAKING N-EWES:
'Norn Iron' Sectarian Ewe Turn!
A remote field in Arboe, Co. Tyrone has been the scene of a SHEAR DYE-abolical sectarian attack on innocent sheep as they passively grazed in the Irish Republican heartland. During the night 6 sheep were unsuspectingly spray painted with the Irish tricolour by presumably DYED IN THE WOOL Traditional Irish Republicans! Undoubtedly, the RAM-ifications of such a SHEEPISH act will lead to a thorough investigation by the PSNI who will be careful to avoid having the WOOL pulled over their eyes on this 'THORNY' issue.!!
Whilst we may find the funny side, the farmer and the local DUP councillor were less than am-EWE-sed as they painted a grim picture!!! Willie Frazer was eager to HOGG the limelight and re-iterate the plight of the rural border community for which he tirelessly campaigns. He even found the time to produce a EWE Tube broadcast which included CLIPPINGS of the whole LAMB-entable episode!!
Not to GLOSS over such an incident but due consideration must be given to the lack of scope for young rural Traditional Irish Republicans to develop their artistic talent. This is in strong contrast to their urban comrades who have endless scope to perfect their wall mural painting...

McCausland Offended By H-Block Episode

Galbally 1981 Hunger Strike Commemoration Controversy
"It cannot be right that a sports ground should be used for commemorating and celebrating something as offensive as the whole H-Block episode."
Northern Ireland Culture Minister Nelson McCausland as resorted to using the GAA’s Rule 7a to launch a stinging attack on an Irish Republican Remembrance event for the 1981 Hunger Strikers.
Martin Hurson was the 6th Irish Republican martyr to die on hunger strike during the battle for Irish political prisoner status (The Five Demands) in the Maze prison in ‘81. He gallantly stepped forth without reservation to replace South Derry IRA prisoner, Brendan McLaughlin, who at the time was suffering from a perforated ulcer. His ultimate and iconic Irish Republican sacrifice ended after forty-four days on Hunger Strike at 4.30 a.m. on Monday, July 13th, 1981.
In November 1976, Martin Hurson was arrested and subsequently convicted for three IRA landmine attacks against British forces of occupation in Northern Ireland for which he received three concurrent sentences of twenty, fifteen and five years for his involvement. During 'The Troubles' he was a member of the legendary East Tyrone Brigade of the IRA, one of the most formidable units active during this period of Ireland’s...

Pat Kenny Faces A Frontline Attack!
For Pat Kenny, host of the RTE's current affairs programme, 'The Frontline', the latest televised episode definitely lived up to it's name!! Pat found himself at the receiving end of a barrage of personal attacks from a rather irate member of the audience.
The central theme running through the 3 minute lambasting focused on Kenny's massive wages he receives as one of RTE's best paid presenters.

Uruguay Elects Broad Front (Frente Amplio) Candidate as President
José Alberto Mujica, (Pepe), is the newly elected President of Uruguay, and for many Uruguayan’s his selection is just reward for Mujicas' 50 dedicated and arduous years at the coal-face of his country’s struggle for socialist reform.
The charismatic Mr Mujica (74), (a former Tupamaros guerrilla) will succeed the current President and fellow Broad Front (FA, Frente Amplio) coalition party member, Tabaré Vázquez, in March 2010, The smooth transition of power was assured by the selection of former Economy Minister Danilo Astori as the vice presidential candidate. In a tightly fought runoff election, with captivated the Uruguayan nation, Mujica returned 53 percent of the electorate compared to 43 percent for former President, Luis Alberto Lacalle, of the National Party.
His sweep to victory was aided by the success story of the current President Tabaré Vázquez, who has a current approval rating among the electorate stands at 70%. His government has been internationally accredited with navigating Uruguay’s economy through the unchartered waters of the ongoing economic global crisis. Human Rights Watch White Flag Report

When A White Flag Becomes A Target!
"The Israeli military is stonewalling in the face of evidence that its soldiers killed civilians waving white flags in areas it controlled and where there were no Palestinian fighters. These cases need thorough, independent investigations."
~Joe Stork (Deputy Director) Human Rights Watch (Middle East)~
Human Rights Watch has released the latest in serious damning reports on human rights violations during the 22 Day war in Gaza. Each report has scrutinised various accusations of IDF troops flouting international human rights interventions including White Phosphorous use, Israeli drone attacks, indiscriminate Israeli fire and Hamas rocket attacks into Israel.
Their 6th report (63-pages) entitled, "White Flag Deaths: Killings of Palestinian
Civilians during Operation Cast Lead”, alleging blatant disregard to rules of engagement during Israel’s recent 22 Day Invasion of the Gaza Strip. Yet again this report alludes to the perpetration of potential war crimes upon innocent Palestinian civilians.
Their previous 5 reports along with those compiled by the International Red Cross and Amnesty International, have been discounted by Israeli authorities as being pro-Palestinian. However, ‘Breaking the Silence’, an Israeli organisation...

Sinn Fein Meeting Of Politico Minds

Sinn Fein meet To Discuss 'Duel Party' Problem
Sinn Fein elite and their remaining party faithful are convening today in Navan, Co. Meath for a meeting of 'nouveau' Irish Republican politico minds to discuss a solution to their two party political agenda. Coincidentally this day marks the 30th anniversary of Northern Ireland being plunged into what we now regard as ‘The Troubles’.
Sinn Fein President,Gerry Adams, as reported in today's 'Irish Times' outlined that the meeting was to;
“review the current situation, assess our strategic, political and organisational progress and then set out a programme of work for the coming months”.
To get proceedings rolling, Mr Adams publicly sought to dispel the minor irritations of ‘dissident’ Irish Republican groups by accusing them of resorting to “old-fashioned physical forcism” and describing their motivation in killing two British soldiers and a PSNI officer as “almost because it could be done”.
‘Vanity’ was his descriptive terminology for the Real and Continuity IRA’s rational for killing two British soldiers and a PSNI officer several months ago. Mr Adams scathingly explained;
“You get these two soldiers killed, but for what reason? You get the police officer killed, for what reason? Almost...

Indian Police Read Riot Act
Posted on 26 November 2009 | 6:40 am by
Human Rights Watch Read Riot Act To Indian Police
Indian Police Service (IPS) has been read the riot act by a freshly published report by Human Rights Watch. The 118 page inculpating report by the human rights watchdog entitled ‘"Broken System: Dysfunction, Abuse and Impunity in the Indian Police," catalogues a host of human rights violations committed by the IPS. Highlighted human rights infringements include the deployment of illegal procedures such as arbitrary arrest and detention, torture and extrajudicial killings.
Successive Indian governments have publicly recognised institutional failings within the Indian Police Service but privately have elected to fudge the controversial issues of reform and accountability. An Indian Supreme Court judgment in 2006 instructed the government to urgently address the specific issues of public accountability and police autonomy relating to staffing procedures.
Whilst Indian society is evolving economically and socially apace the same cannot be said for the IPS implementation of the rule of law. It remains stubbornly fixed in anachronistic British imperialist style time warp and has vehemently resisted international calls for 21st style reform. Asia director at Human Rights Watch Asian Director, Brad Adams,...

'The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge' finale in Belfast this week is set to be the pinnacle of Northern Ireland’s tourism season 2009. Sinn Féin's Political Dilema

Sinn Féin's Ideological Cross Roads
I am penning this post in response to a recent article addressing the lack of progression on Irish Unity by Sinn Fein’s Declan Kearney in An Phoblacht. The article was a timely rallying cry to the remaining Sinn Fein activists prior to yesterday’s Ard Comhairle, in Navan, Co. Meath.
Given Mr Kearney’s esteem within the party hierarchy I thought that his views on Sinn Fein’s political agenda might make interesting reading. Alas, after the first paragraph my hopes of gaining a new political insight were severely dashed! Although eloquently written, it fails miserably to mask the fundamental problem and serves only to re-iterate the much vaunted but now lack lustre Irish Unity strategy adopted by Sinn Fein.
Did Sinn Fein have a Political Plan B?
From preliminary scanning its contents, Mr. Kearney’s article seems a mere pseudo attempt to stir ‘Irish Republican’ sentiment whilst remaining in a delusional (Sunningdale Mark II) comfort zone, hell bent on propping up THEIR ‘so far’ failed Irish Unity strategy and further side swiping and dissing the so-called dissident Irish Republicans! However, whilst remaining within these ‘safe’ confines might be music to the ears for their band wagon ex-SDLP supporters, many...

Berlin Witnesses 1970s Style Leftist Violence

Berlin Fears Resurgence of Radical Leftist Violence
Berlin has witnessed a spate of arson attacks targeting exclusive cars including Mercedes-Benz, Porsches and BMW’s. The German police have warned that these attacks could signify a potential return to leftist and anarchist violence which ravaged the country during the 1970’s. Berlin have prompted police to warn of a resurgence of the leftist and anarchist violence that terrorised Germany in the 1970s.
Head of the German police union, Rainer Wendt, compared the arson attacks to;
"a renaissance of the leftist terror of the 1970s, borne by hatred of the state and its system, directed against the people who represent it".
History of the Red Army Faction
Germany has not witnessed such wide spread anarchy since the infamous Red Army Faction (RAF), founded in 1968, created havoc during much of the 70’s. The radical leftist group were also known as the Baader-Meinhof Gang, named after two of their founding leaders, Andreas Baader (1943–77) and Ulrike Meinhof (1934–76).
The Red Army Faction were the first leftist organisation to conduct a sustained armed struggle to combat anti-imperialism in the West. The organisation was steeped in Marxism-Leninism revolutionary ethos and existed for close to 28 years. The RAF...

Sui Kyi Verdict Causes UN Serious Concern

United Nations 'Water' Down Response to Suu Kyi Verdict
‘The members of the Security Council express serious concern at the conviction and sentencing of... Aung San Suu Kyi and its political impact.’
~UK Ambassador John Sawers (UN Security Council President)~
The United Nations Security Council have expressed serious concern at the 18 month house arrest extension of the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The sentencing during what has been described internationally as a ‘SHAM’ trial has signified a cynical attempt by the military junta to remove Suu Kyi from Burmese national elections due to take place in 2010.
Prior to the conviction, numerous world leaders and international human rights organisations including Amnesty International had implored the Burmese military junta to show clemency towards Suu Kyi. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon recently travelled to Burma to meet Senior General Than Shwe but to little avail and was prohibited from even visiting Suu Kyi in jail.
The statement released by the UN had been ‘watered’ down from the original more hard line version which would have un-equivocally ‘condemned’ the military junta’s action and demanded the immediate release of Suu Kyi. The original statement was rephrased due to reservations...

SDLP Claim Sinn Fein ‘Hijacked’ Hunger Strike Commemoration

SDLP Deputy Leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell Lambasts Sinn Fein use of GAA Ground
Controversy surrounding the recent Hunger Strike Commemoration in the Irish Republican heartland of Galbally, County Tyrone has been cranked up another few notches this week by both SDLP and DUP members. The latter condemnation has been a further instalment from Northern Ireland Culture Minister Nelson McCausland calling for the GAA to hold an internal investigation into the proceedings. This has followed his outspoken views earlier in the week when he describe the ’81 Hunger Strike as an offensive episode!
The SDLP Deputy Leader, Dr Alasdair McDonnell, has lambasted the Sinn Fein leadership by accusing them of “hijacking” the commemoration for their own political expediency. Following a meeting with several leading GAA officials Dr McDonnell endorsed McCausland’s argument that the Cappagh Commemoration for the '81 Hunger Strikers that was lead by Bobby Sands, was in direct contravention with Rule 7a of the GAA’s Official Rule Book. He claims that the;
“Provos had hijacked a GAA premises to cynically deflect attention from Sinn Féin’s internal problems”.
Without mincing his words he decided to go straight for Sinn Fein’s jugular by accusing them of using the event as a diversionary...

Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, (57) has returned home to his native Libya to a hero’s welcome after being released from a Scottish prison on ‘compassionate grounds’ for his role in the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988. He was sentenced in 2001 for the murder of 270 people including 243 passengers (189 Americans), 16 crew members and 11 Lockerbie residents.
Defending his early release from HMP Greenock Prison the Scottish justice minister, Kenny MacAskill, explained to reporters that; “He is a dying man, he is terminally ill,...........My decision is that he returns home to die.” The decision to release Megrahi was strenuously opposed by American officials including Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama who described it as a ‘mistake’.
As the terminally ill former Libyan Intelligence Services Officer, disembarked from the private Afriqiyah Airways jet at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport, he was accompanied by the son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, Seif al-Islam el- Gadhafi, and was greeted by several hundred Libyans holding banners inscribed with Libya’s National Youth Association emblems whilst some were also waving Scottish flags. This has incensed relatives of the victims and...

National Hunger Strike Commemoration 2009

Was the selection of Cappagh a Cynical Sinn Fein Ploy?
'Provos had hijacked a GAA premises to cynically deflect attention from Sinn Féin’s internal problems'~SDLP Deputy Leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell~
The selection of Cappagh as host to this year’s National Hunger Strike Commemoration including the ’81 Hunger Strike led by Bobby Sands, is as strategic as it is poignantly symbolic. Strategic in that it can be envisaged as a concerted attempt by Sinn Fein to re-consolidate their grass root Irish Republican support, in an area not averse to vocally showing their disaffection with the party’s recent political decision making on the island of Ireland.
Last year the Sunday World newspaper claimed that members of Sinn Fein were asked to stay away from 1916 Easter Rising commemorations to be held in Galbally and Edendork. According to the newspaper, local people were incensed by an alleged Sinn Fein attempt to dictate the content of graveside orations normally controlled by the independent National Graveside Association (NGA est. 1867). The Sunday World reported that the row was initially sparked by a Sinn Fein representative allegedly demanding that a pre-written statement signed by P. O’Neill be read at the 1916 Easter commemorations in East Tyrone held this year. This...

Ireland Reports Second Swine Flu Death

Swine Flu Claims Second Irish Republic Victim
Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE) has revealed that the second fatality from Influenza A H1N1 virus in the Republic of Ireland did not suffer from any underlying health problems. The 55 year old male was being treated in a Dublin hospital intensive care unit for a number of days prior to eventually succumbing to the virus on Monday. This Swine Flu fatality was unlike the Republic’s first 18 year old female victim who had been suffering from cystic fibrosis prior to contracting pandemic H1N1 flu.
The HSE’s head of health protection, Dr Kevin Kelleher, explained in today’s Irish Times that whilst 90% of people who contracted the disease would recover without hospitalisation, Swine Flu would claim the lives of a small number of cases who had no underlying health problems. To date, 50 H1N1 flu cases had been admitted to Irish hospitals and current contraction rates for the virus stood at approx. 1,400/wk.
The HSE has also urged schools to open as normal for the new school term in two weeks time. The Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) are due to meet today to discuss the current status of Ireland’s Swine Flu levels and its possible impact on the forth coming school term.
Topics on the INTO’s agenda for...

Historic Fatah Conference Hopes to Rejuvenate Palestinian Support
Fatahs' sixth General Assembly and the first in 20 years, headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, has succeeded in electing a new executive council and has witnessed a substantial injection of vernal talent into the party heirarchy.
This conference was deemed as critical in re-establishing Abbas’ dwindling political authority within the Palestinian movement. In a major revamp of the aging executive 18 seats up for grabs were won by 14 'fresh faces'.
Over 2,000 selected Fatah delegates attended the high profile assemblage in Bethlehem which incidentally was the first to be held on Palestinian soil since Tunis in 1989. However, the conference itself had to be extended from the scheduled 3 days as it had been dogged by political in-fighting and recriminations. In fact at one stage it was thought that the conference would have to be suspended due to escalating tensions between delegates with journalists being advised to refrain from attending. In an effort to diffuse the situation Saudi King Abdullah sent a letter urging Fatah factions to resolve their internal differences. He warned members that their internal squabbling was causing more untold damage to their goal of an independent...

Israel’s Swine Flu Air Defense System
Posted on 12 August 2009 | 3:37 am by
Rabbis Go Airborne to Halt Swine Flu Spread
Israeli rabbis and Kabbalah (ancient Jewish mystical belief system) mystics have went airborne over the country in an attempt to halt the spread of the dreaded H1N1 swine flu virus. Their weapons of viral destruction were ceremonial trumpets known as shofars (ritual rams’ horns) as they FLU over their disputed land.
The highly unusual event took place on Monday when around 50 Jewish holy men boarded an Arkia flight from Ben Gurion Airport. They took to the skies to chant prayers and blew their shofars seven times in a ritual which they believe would halt the spread of the disease through Israel in its tracks.
The story that was covered by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, and has Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri claiming;
“The aim of the flight was to stop the pandemic so people will stop dying from it,”
He continues to hail the mission as a resounding success;
“We are certain that, thanks to the prayer, the danger is already behind us”
Since the eating pork is banned under kosher dietary rules, Israel’s ultra-orthodox Deputy Health Minister hit the headlines by controversially insisted that the Influenza A H1N1 should not be referred to as ‘swine flu’. He was unsuccessful in his attempts to have the virus renamed...

Chechnya Witnesses Yet More Callous Assassinations
Kremlin endorsed Chechen President, Ramzan Kadyrov, Recently Proclaimed that Russia’s North Caucasus Region will soon be 'the safest place in the world'!
Chechen Save the Generation Charity worker, Zarema Sadulayeva has been found shot to death along with her husband, Alik Dzhabrailov, just hours after being abducted from their place of work by men masquerading as police officials. This is just the latest callous attack on human rights activists in Chechnya in a matter of months which is controlled by Kremlin endorsed Ramzan A. Kadyrov.
Prominent Russian human rights campaigner, Natalia Estemirova (50), was abducted from the Chechen capital, Grozny, and later found assassinated in neighbouring Ingushetia. Estemirova had been a tireless campaigner for the Russian Human Right’s Organisation, 'Memorial', involved in investigating human rights atrocities and systematic abuse in Chechnya.
Amnesty International described the ruthless killings as a stark global reminder "of the climate of impunity in Chechnya," They also sited the failure of both Russian and Chechen government officials to properly investigate the indefensible murder of human rights activists as a "strong indication that those authorities are at...

Suu Kyi Sentenced in ‘Sham’ Burmese Trial

Burmese Court Sentences Suu Kyi to 18 Month Extended House Arrest
Burmese people around the globe, either still in their homeland or forced into exile are feeling deep revulsion regarding the 18 month house arrest imposed upon their talismanic pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The Nobel laureate and recent recipient of Amnesty International’s most prestigious honour – the “Ambassador of Conscience” - was handed the court extention to her house arrest having been accused of harbouring US national John Yettaw at her home after he gained access to her compound uninvited. Incidentally, Mr Yettaw was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and which is set to include 4 years hard labour.
World revulsion at the ‘sham’ verdict centres on the fact that it a cynical and deliberate attempt to remove Sui Kyi from Burma’s political arena especially with national elections looming in 2010. Daw Suu (Daw = “auntie” in Burmese) as she is affectionately known in Burma is the leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) embodies her nations desire for self-determination and her selfless work for to promote ‘people power’ in the region has meant she is held in the same global esteem as the late Cory Aquino.
Her pro-democracy party emphatically won the 1990 Burmese...

The total number of laboratory confirmed cases now stands at 83 for the North. This increase is in stark contrast to ALL other regions of the UK which claim a substantial drop in reported infections.

Scotland: Reduction of 450 cases to 1,050 last week.
Wales: Estimated 2,670 last week compared to 4,410 in the previous week
The Republic of Ireland has also witnessed a reduction in the number of GP reported cases. Latest figures released reported approximately 1,400 cases of the H1N1 virus which is equivalent to 32.5 cases per 100,000 of the Republic’s population.
Announcing the latest statistics, Dr John Devlin Deputy, Ireland’s chief medical officer reported that instances of the H1N1 virus had “stabilised” following a dramatic jump from 12.5 to 37 cases per 100,000 the previous week.

No Extradition For Two Irish Republicans

Two Irish Republicans Not To Be Extradited
British Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided not to serve extradition warrants for two Irish Republican former P.O.W's because they no longer preparing a case against them;
'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.
The two IRA men, Pearse McAuley and Nessan Quinlivan, had been awaiting trial in Brixton prison on charges of conspiracy to both murder (brewery boss Charles Tidbury) and explosives charges prior to their audacious jail-break in July, 1991. The former mentioned Irish Republican Prisoner along with IRA volunteer, Kevin Walsh, were released from Castlerea Prison (Co. Roscommon) today, having served three quarters of their 14 year sentences for the killing of Garda Jerry McCabe in Adare, Co Limerick, in 1996.
Martin Ferris, Sinn Féin TD, who was awaiting McAuley's release outside Castlerea Prison, said that the CPS decision; 'will be a relief to the men and their families'.
