Hidden Hurdles In Weight Loss and How To Overcome Them

Posted on 6 May 2014 | 4:00 am by

Some people are born with the ability to eat whatever the want without gaining unwanted body fat. Most of us, however, aren’t so lucky.

If you’re struggling to lose weight, perhaps the problem is caused by a hidden hurdle. There are a countless number of elements that can prevent you from achieving your weight loss goals, some of which are obvious while others are more inconspicuous. In this post, we’re going to discuss some of the hidden hurdles in weight loss and how to overcome them.

Too Much Talk, Not Enough Action

You can make all the Facebook posts you want about starting a new diet and exercise regimen, but it’s not going to help you achieve your weight loss goals unless you take action.

Don’t get me wrong, voicing your desire to lose weight is a great motivator, as you’ll gain emotional support from friends and family members. However, only talking about your goals and not taking action isn’t going to help you achieve them. So stop posting updates on social media and sending out text messages to your friends, and start exercising!

Worrying About Numbers

Another common hurdle that men and women face in their weight loss efforts is trying to achieve a specific weight. There’s a fine line between monitoring your weight loss and going overboard. Stepping on the scale once a day is perfectly fine, but weighing yourself several different times during the day may cloud your mind with questions like: Why am I not losing weight? Why do I weigh more of all a sudden? Did that lunch really add another pound to my weight?

You may not realize it, but you actually weigh more at night due to the water your body retains. Don’t worry about specific numbers and focus more on a strong diet and exercise regimen.

Relapsing

According to some studies, up to 90% of people who go on diets for the purpose of losing weight end up relapsing in less than a year. This is a shocking statistic that should serve as a real eye-opener to anyone who’s trying to lose weight. Relapsing is a serious hurdle that you must overcome in order to achieve your goals.

So, how do you prevent relapsing back into your old, unhealthy lifestyle? Avoid the temptation to snack or eat old “comfort” foods that you once enjoyed. Instead, maintain a strong focus towards your weight and health. As you begin to see the results of your new lifestyle pay off the form of a slimmer, fitter body, you’ll naturally want to continue.
