Onyeama, Dabiri-Arewa Depart For Libya To Rescue Nigerians

Posted on 8 January 2018 | 8:52 pm by

The Federal Government’s special delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama on Wednesday departed Abuja for Tripoli, the Libyan Capital to evacuate Nigerians trapped in that country.

The Head, Press and Public Relations of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr Josiah Emerole, made this known in a statement in Abuja.
“Others members are the Director-General, NAPTIP, Julie Okah-Donli, and Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Diaspora Matters,’’ he said.
According to him, facts finding mission on the level of the enslavement of Nigerians in that country would be part of their engagements in Libya.
He said that they would also engage the Libyan Authorities, Nigerian officials and Nigeria citizens living there, as well as International organisations working on migration issues in Libya.
Emerole quoted the NAPTIP’s Director-General as saying that, “the Agency is ready to assist victims of human trafficking who will be returning to Nigeria to get properly reintegrated back into the Nigerian Society.
’“Our Counsellors are fully ready to receive the returnees and give them the needed psycho-social assistance for proper reintegration into the society.

Good gesture I must say, the first time Nigerians out there will be giving the sense of belonging.

@Tai & Kinika: That's right. I beleive by now Nigerians will be aware of the dangers of traveling to Europe via Libya. It baffles me that up till now, most Nigerians are still taking such risk

@Endy Edeson very few are aware of where they are going to, majority especially ladies know next to nothing about that journey, it's either their parents or guardians give them away because of series of lies those guys called gids tell them and for the boys they were highly deceived by those who went for shopping while coming home. Libya is never a free country, and the journey to Libya is perilous terrain, mindset of living in Libya is conceptual underpinning that leads to early grave. My view though.
